To provide clarification of there is/there are statements and questions in the context of places in Istanbul and what is in those places.

To practice speaking for accuracy.
Procedure (28-43 minutes)
- I will ask the students some of their favorite places in Istanbul and what is/are in those places and write just those words on the WB. There will be two columns: Singular and Plural.
- On the white board I will take two of the words I elicited (bars and Sultanahmet, for example). I will the write: - There are + many bars + in Kadikoy. - There is + only one + Sultanahmet! - Ask the students to looks closely at the sentences and trying to elicit the difference of singular and plural. - Once the students understand the differences I will give them the HO - Instructions: Work with the people around you and complete exercises 7 and 8. ICQ’s: Will you work alone? No. Will you do the whole page or just exercises 7 and 8? Just 7 and 8 Feedback: Students will write their answers on the board and I’ll go over it with them.
- I will then teach them the question form: - Is there + a Turkish Bath + near Istiklal Cadessi? - Are there + many bakeries + in your neighborhood? - Once the students understand how these questions are asked I will tell them to do Exercise 9. Instructions: Completely exercise 9 with your partner. Make sure to read (a), (b), (c), and (d) to get the full instructions. ICQ’s: Will you do more than exercise 9? No. Will you work by yourself or in paris? In pairs. Feedback: Ask the students their answers and check them. Also ask some students about if there is a “park” or “station” near their home to make sure they understand what’s up.
Instructions: Do exercise 10 by yourself. - Regroup the students into groups of 3 or 4 - Instructions: Discuss your answers for exercise 10 with your groups, be sure to use there is/there are statements and ask is there/are there questions! - ICQ’s: Will you work in pairs or groups? Groups. Feedback: Ask students what they wrote about and clarify any confusion about TL
