Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson students will be able to share their experiences and opinions regarding life changes using verbs followed by ing and to with relative accuracy.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about the life of Joao Carlos Martins went through in the context of life changes

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets Ss. T shares two questions on the canva slides. 1) Are you good at facing life changes? 2) What big changes have you experience in your life? T asks Ss to discuss the questions in breakout rooms. Ss are sent to breakout rooms to discuss the questions. (3 min) Ss are taken back to the sesion. T conducts OCFB.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T screen shares google forms to Ss. T asks students to: Individually, read the text and answer the questions about the text. You have 3-4 mins to do this. (2 min) Ss read and answer individually. (3 min) T conducts OCFB (2 min)

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T gives instructions: "Now read the same text. Idenfify sentences that have verbs with ing or to. You have three minutes for this " (1 min) T demos activity. (1 min) Ss look for the sentences individually (3 min) T shares screenshares some options. T nominate some Ss to read them. (2 min)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Controlled practice (7-9 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful

T gives instruction: Now, discuss in pairs about how you feel about making changes. Ask the questions from the previous excersice to eachother. You have 5 min to discuss. (1 min) Ss are sent to breakout rooms to discuss. (5 mins) Once Ss comeback, T conducts OCFB and DEC if necessary. (2 min)
