Main Aims

  • Exploring elements of storytelling (atmosphere, characters, ending) and generating stories.

Subsidiary Aims

  • practice using conditional sentences (first conditional).

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

# Discuss the key elements of a story: Beginning, plot, characters, and ending. # Write "Choose Your Own Adventure" story on the board and try to elicit the meaning. I may use some examples from video games as students are teenagers. Choose Your Own Adventure is written from a second-person point of view, with the reader assuming the role of the main character and making choices that determine the main character's actions and the plot's outcome.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

# Write a name (Alex) on the board and 3 different squares: 1) university 2) job 3) National football team and then describe different possibilities. # Based on the possibilities, draw a flowchart on the board and try to explain how this type of stories work. # Draw Ss attentions to graphs in their book.

Productive Task(s) (18-23 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

# Group Activity: Story Planning # Divide students into small groups (3-4 students each). # provide them with instruction: - Each group plans a "Choose Your Own Adventure" story. # Each group presents their "Choose Your Own Adventure" story to the class. # Encourage students to use conditional sentences while presenting.

Wrap-Up (8-10 minutes) • Feedback and error Correction

# Ss should write a short story individually, using conditional sentences, and then retell their story for their partners.
