To provide students practice in the functional use of the verbs have, make and take and use it in the context of the reading.
Procedure (39-49 minutes)
1. Engage students with a discussion on what month they were born in and the chances of two people in the same class being born on the same month and/or day. 2. provide a culturally-relevant example, such as the President and the PM of Turkey share the same birthday...Provide another example from your own life ( I share a b'day with my father-in-law, Aug 4)
1. Ask the students if they know what this phenomena is called...coincidence 2. Write the word 'coincidence' on the WB and elicit and drill the word - MFP. 3. Guide the students into discussing their own experiences re: coincidences in their personal lives
Reading Ex.1 Incredible but true - gist task 1. Provide students with the HO on (Inside Out, p.108) 2. Explain the instructions. 3. ICQ 4. Read the missing text from the exercise. 5. Students will PW for this exercise by inserting the missing text. 6. Allow students to compare notes and FB 7. Play audio 78 for students to listen and check answers.
Lexis: have, make and take 1. Write the following on WB: a) Who had an idea? (underline 'had an idea') b) Who made arrangements to meet someone? (underline 'made arrangements') c) Who took her seat on her flight to Australia? (underline 'took her seat') 2. Students scan the text to find the answers in pairs. 3. FB with WC.
1. HO 2 - choose the appropriate verb. 2. Students will work in pairs reading the sentences out loud to eachother. 3. Students will PW and discuss their choices. 4. FB and discuss the results with WC.
