intermediate level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To expand their noun and verb vocabulary.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide speaking practice using discussion and a free activity.
Procedure (34-47 minutes)
I will start by asking the question, "Do you look up to the stars in the night sky, or do you look down to them?". I will then ask the class for their answers before giving my opinion, as there is no definitive answer.
In Exercise 1, I will attach 6 pictures (the earth, a wasp, cheese, onion, sumo wrestler and a surfer) to the wall outside of the classroom. I will then ask ss to leave the room in pairs and pick a picture from the wall and them to explain what they know about the subject of their picture. Six questions will be displayed on the WB and the ss will match their picture to the questions. Then I will ask them to answer the questions as much as possible in two minutes with their partners. I elicit ss' ideas, then I will hand the answers to ss to check and I elicit them for any surprising facts.
I first explain the requirements for Exercise 2a and then hand out the question sheets. I then will ask ss to read the example 2A. Ss work alone to match the verbs, then check in pairs. I feedback at the end of the exercise. Elicit the answers then drill verbs. In exercise 2B, I will write the 10 verbs on the board and demonstrate the exercise by completing the example 2B on page 59 with the class. I will then ask for volunteers to come to the board and choose a verb which can also act as a noun. In Exercise 2C I will give an example before asking ss to write the noun form of the verbs from Exercise 2B on the board. I will provide FB.
In this stage, we will drill the nouns and verbs that have remained on the board from Exercises 2a-c, focusing on vocabulary and pronunciation.
I will provide free activity for ss to practice their speaking skills. They will work in pairs to have a dialogue about the questions I provide on HO. I will monitor and correct any errors and provide FB.
