Procedure (38-45 minutes)
Quick reflection of last weeks reading class about conspiracy theories (Man on the Moon, Princess Di, JFK, etc.) and see what they remember to lead them into the new topic.
Ss work in Pairs to find the connection between the words and phrases: a Harvard Professor, the future of the world, the director of the Louvre museum, a secret organization, murdered. Elicit a few ideas from ss and write them on WB.
- before listening explain to ss french names, that they won't get stuck: Jacques Sauniere and Sophie Neveu. - new word: phone-in show. - Task for SS: To check their guesses (Listening time: 2:08).
What is the story about? (Da Vinci Code, Bestseller, by Dan Brown, etc) new phrase: that the book and its secret have upset a lot people. - Student's probably have to listen to it again (2:08).
Ss listen to the second part of the radio program. Task: Ss have to write down the number of callers who think that there may be some truth to the story.
Word explanation: Echelon and the X-Files. SS listen to part 2 of the radio program again. - Task: This time they have to listen for specific information to fill in the gaps on HO. (They have to listen for the name of the person who thinks that there might be some truth to the story. SS check their answers in pairs and then share with teacher.
Ss using discussion points and discuss in pairs if these conspiracies could be true. After this, they share their findings with the class.
