Description

In this lesson I’m going to give some handouts to students in order to clarify and express the meaning of target language ,consequently they will be able to talk about actions that have happened in the past and relate to or continue into the present

  • To provide clarification of Simple past in the context of Past actions

Procedure

Warmer/lead in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage I will provide some examples about past tense and expanding the concept of that pointing to the grammar structure of the simple past

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • provide context for the target language through a text In their handouts

In this stage I want my students to read handouts and involving them to talk about the difference between simple past and present perfect to clarify the meaning of new grammar

Highlighting (3-6 minutes) • To attract students' attention to the target language

By providing some examples of the grammar I am going to clarify the usages, meaning ,form, pronunciation and draw student’s attention to the TL

Clarification (12-15 minutes) • By focusing more on meaning , form and pronunciation, make it more feasible for students to make better examples

I will clarify the meaning by drawing a timeline on the board and asking some CCQs; Are the actions done in the past or present? Is there any visible result or evidence of the actions in the present time?After that I will elicit the structure from the students to clarify how to form the sentences. The regular and irregular verbs are mentioned in this stage.At the end I draw the students' attention to the adverbs used with this tense: for +a period of time, since + a point of time in the past until present,

Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students going to answer the provided exercises on their handouts and they go through checking in pairs and eventually we are going to correct the answers with whole class

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To fix the grammar in the students' minds, I ask them to speak individually

I will ask my students to talk about news, recent events , life experiences ,present results ,unfinished time word and how long something lasted?
