Description

In this lesson, students will learn Present Simple (I/you/we/they) questions and short answers through reading a text about a famous British couple's interview on their free time activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Present Simple (I/you/we/they) questions and short answers in the context of an interview with a famous British couple about their free time activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading and detailed reading about Mike and Kim's free time activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The Teacher shows the picture of Mike and Kim Black and asks the class who these people are. She tries to elicit as many answers as possible.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

After talking about the picture, the students will read the interview themselves for two minutes and they will try to find three things that Mike and Kim do in their free time. After some peer checking, the teacher asks the volunteer students to write their answers on the board.

Focus on Meaning (4-6 minutes) • To read the text in detail and find whether the sentences are true or false.

The students will read the text for the second time and do the true/false exercise on their own. When they finish it, they will compare answers in pairs. The teacher will go through the answers and ask a rationale for the false ones.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher asks the students to complete the grammar chart in pairs. Then she will draw a chart on the board to highlight the word order. She will ask Ss to find more examples from the interview. Students will write their answers on WB and they can correct each other's mistake.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To have some practice about the TL.

The teacher will ask the Ss to work alone and fill in the gaps. Then the students will check their answers in pairs. T will go through the answers with the class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Each student will be given a copy of Find someone who activity. Students will find the correct verb for each question in new pairs and when they finish, the teacher will go through the correct answers with WC. Ss must find two people in the class who answer yes to each question. Whoever finishes more questions with two positive answers wins the game. At the end of the game, students will take turns to make sentences about each pair of students on their worksheets.

If time activity - Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In groups of three, students will make an interview. One student will be the interviewer, the other two will be a famous couple. The T will monitor and give some delayed FB.
