Description

In this lesson students will practice and review vocabulary pertaining to the "cinema theme". We will do vocabulary review games to go over the vocabulary introduced in the previous lesson. Then I will introduce new vocabulary and have the students practice though various pair work activities and group games. I will use circle-time TPR to introduce the movie genre vocabulary.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice, clarification and review of Action Comedy Horror Musical Science Fiction Thriller Western in the context of Film

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a through using film and cinema vocabulary. in the context of Film and Cinema

Procedure

Warmer with Posters (3-4 minutes) • Warm the students up to the topic with Movie posters

Stick posters on the WB and ask the students what type of movie each poster is about.

Group Match Vocabulary with posters (4-6 minutes) • Groups match vocab with movie posters

Class will be put into two groups. I will give them movie posters and definitions. Students must hang the definitions with the posters on the WB.

TPR (10-15 minutes) • Practice Vocabulary Through TPR

Have students stand in a circle. Show them one poster, ask them what the genre for that poster is, then model the "action" for that word. Have students repeat. Model each different action for the movie genres and have students copy me. Then throw the toy sheep at one student and tell them to do one of the genre actions. Students throw the sheep at fellow students and tell them to do the action related to the vocabulary

Matching slips (5-7 minutes) • Review Vocab from Prior lesson

Review vocabulary from prior lesson; Soundtrack Director Cast Film Crew On location Screen -- Put students in pairs. Give students slips with vocabulary and definitions, they must match definitions with slips.

Back to the Board Game (7-10 minutes) • Practice and Recall Vocabulary

Put the class into two groups. Have student sit with their back to the board. Write one vocabulary word on the board. each group has to explain to their team member without using the word. And the student must guess what the word is within 1 minute.

Interview your friend (5-7 minutes) • Have students practice the vocabulary

Have students work in pairs to interview each other about their movie preferences. Extra Activity (7-8 minutes) • Board Rush

Set the students up in two lines, give them markers and have them run up to the board and write as much vocabulary as they can remember from the lesson. Extra points for vocabulary spelled correctly.
