Food (Inside Out, pp 97-98)

Description

In this lesson, Sts will focus on their vocabulary and practice their speaking skills. The lesson starts with a conversation about foods. It is followed by eliciting the meaning of foods and doing the exercises.Then, I will elicit the meaning of idioms and show the examples from the pictures. It will be finished by a speaking activity.

Procedure

Lead-In (3-5 minutes) • To set the context

Ask Sts : what kind of food they like; when they go to the shopping what sort of vegetables and fruits they buy.

Elicit the meanings (15-20 minutes) • To get interest in the topics

I will stick "vegetables", "fruits", "meat" and "others" printed words to the WB. I will put all foods names as printed works on the table. I will ask Sts to match them. There will be some food names that Sts don`t know. I will elicit the definition of unknown words and asks Sts to discuss what food they might be. I will hand out the activity 1. and use the projector to display the photo in full colours.

Personalize words (10-15 minutes) • Get students to use words from the text

I will hand out the activity 2 with my printed words and empty cards. Ask them what they have bought recently and which food they really like or cannot live without. I will ask them to work in pairs and write down their foods on the empty cards if they have something interesting. Sts will stick them to the WB. I will go around the class to monitor how they are getting on with the exercise. I will ask a few students to talk about their foods. If there are any interesting things I will let them talk freely. If there is enough time I will ask a good receipt and how they cook their food.

To elicit the meaning of idiom (10-15 minutes) • To give Sts an introduction to idioms

I will elicit "idiom" by using a picture and giving an example. Then I will stick the pictures and meaning of five examples to the WB. I will elicit each idiom one by one. I will ask Sts to give some examples. Next, I will hand out 1. idiom activity and ask Sts to do in pairs. I will check the answers with WC. Then I will hand out the activity 4 and get them to work with their partners. I will do it with WC.

Freely speaking (5-10 minutes) • Sts will have oppurtunity to discuss

I willl ask Sts to think about activity 4. I will let them share their thoughts with WC
