Procedure (37-43 minutes)
-to give SS instructions; -There are 10 letters posted on the walls outside of the class simultenously. -'T','A','L','E','N','T','X','W','O','S' -SS will be splitted in 2-3 groups to bring all the letters and place it on the board. -The teacher intends to elicit the word 'TALENT'. -SS will work in groups. -SS will be given 3 minutes to think. -One by one they will come to the board and try out what this word is. -first group to finish the activity wins. -ask SS what 'talent' is. -show them a video about a word 'talent'. -give the answer if SS cannot.
-Show SS some flashcards.(Go through the stages of ECDW to teach) -elicit words. -ask concept check question. -drill the word. -write the words on the board. -Give SS instructions about the handout in which there is a puzzle for them to fill. -give SS handouts. -tell them to work in pairs. -tell them to compare their answers. -tell them to unfold the paper
-Ask students to look at a page of text containing illustrations, headings and key words for 1 minute. -Ask them to close the text and say what they think the text is about. Put the list of ideas on the whiteboard. -world-famous, BBC young musician of the year, businessman, Chiswick, her sister. -Give them questions ; 1. What does Nicola do? 2. Why was 2004 special for her? 3. Where does she live? 4. What does her sister do? 5. What does her father do? -tell them to work in pairs. -take feedback -ask SS after acitivity. -tell them to unfold the paper to check the answers.
-Give SS instructions. -Put SS in two groups. -Assign a text to each group. -Group A-Nicola -Group B-Gio -Get SS to read their text and answer the questions. -Monitor SS and help with any queries. -Give SS 2 minutes to read questions Group A Read about Nicola. 1 Was music important in her family? 2 How old was Nicola when she could play the violin? 3 Did her father work hard? 4 Were her grandparents rich or poor? 5 Is money important to Nicola and her father? 6 Does her father like classical music? 7 What does she teach her father? What does he teach her? 8 When does she play the violin with her sister? Group B Read about Gio. 1 Where was Gio born? 2 Why couldnt he buy the jaguar car? 3 What was Gio's business? 4 How old was Nicola when she could play the violin? 5 Can Gio play a musical instrument? 6 What music does he like? What doesnt he like? 7 Does Nicola work hard? 8 Why does he cry? -Get them to work in their groups. -Ask answers to each group one by one. -tell them to unfold the paper to see answers.
-Re-group the SS. -make sure there is an A and a B student in each pair. -Show a demo by getting a pair of SS to talk the person in their text. -SS continue talking about the answers to the question in exercise 3 and exchanging the information about the person. -Monitor SS and help if necessary. -Also check for correct use of the present and past of 'can' and 'to be'. -Note down any common errors. -Bring the WC together to conduct the FB.
