Subsidiary Aims
-
Ss are going to learn positive, negative and quastion form of "There is/Are" and be comfortable using there is/are to make sentences.
Procedure (35-47 minutes)
In this stage, I am going to show a diagram of a house on the OHP and briefly explain to the Ss what they need to do in the first exercise. I will then complete an example question before instructing Ss to begin.
I will ask students to look for cards outside of the class which will have the name of a room or piece of furniture written on it and, then attempt to attach the card to the correct location on a diagram of a house which will be displayed on the W/B. I will then ask the class if this is the correct location, and correct if necessary, before asking the students to read the words. If Ss pronounce the word incorrectly, I will correct immediately and ask the class to repeat a few times.
I will give the "grammar Spot" HO to the class and ask them to complete it and monitor them. I will then briefly explain the scenario of "A Flat To Rent" and then hand out Exercise 1 " and ask them to do it in pairs. I will then elicit the answers from the class.
Use the OHP to display the photos of the flat. Elicit and then drill Ss to describe the living room.
In this stage, I will ask Ss to draw their own house or flat and label the rooms and furniture in their house. I will then arrange Ss into a circle and each will take a turn to answer questions from the group about their home. Questions and answers must use the "Grammar Spot" form. I will monitor the group and provide feedback where necessary.
