Description

In this lesson, students will learn about will/won't in the context of prediction based on some short conversations in the book (page 46). After this lesson, students are supposed to be able to use will/won't to predict and talk about the future. The lesson will be finished with a discussion task about their future (e.x. where do you see yourself in 2 years?)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will explain the meaning of the two words "optimist" and "pessimist" and how they're used to describe kinds of predictions (negative/positive) about the future (by asking the students what they think about their finals, do they think they'll pass (optimist) or they'll fail (pessimist).

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

We will go through page 46, 2a and I will ask the students to work in pairs and I'll write 3 of the "your friend says" sentences on the board for each group to come up with an optimist and a pessimist prediction.

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some of the sentences that my students have made in the correct form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the meaning by drawing a timeline on the board and asking some CCQs; (Are the sentences about the past, present, or future? -future. Are the actions finished? No they haven't happened yet.). After that I will elicit the structure from the students to clarify how to form the sentences. (Positive, negative, question and contract form). I will compare be going to for prediction with will here.

Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise A on page 137 in the grammar bank in 4 minutes. They will have 2 minutes to write the first 3 sentences individually and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask the students the question "where do you see yourself in 2 years" they can talk about their career, studies or their special skills or anythingt hey like.
