Description

In this lesson students are going to learn about past simple sentences through PPP in the concept of holiday. The speaking accuracy is focused on as the sub aim.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of holiday

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by talking about the things that I did last weekend.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I ask my students to tell the class about the things they did last weekend.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some of my students' sentences on the board in the correct past simple form.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the meaning of the tense by drawing a timeline on the board and asking some CCQs like: Is the sentence about the past, present or future? (past) - Is the action completed? (yes) Can we mention the exact time that it happened? (yes) - The form will be covered by asking students the roll of the words and we will focus on regular and irregular verbs and the way the change when they are used about the past. The correct pronunciation of the verbs like: read, said, talked, asked will be mentioned.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise a on page 120 in 4 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers together and then we will check with the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to be divided into groups of 4 and talk about their best holiday ever in 8 minutes. They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end.
