Description

In this lesson students learn to talk about habits and routines. First, they talk about different areas of their lives that they follow a similar routine most days and in which areas they like to change and do things differently. Then they watch a street interview of people answering 2 questions. (1. In what ways are you a creature of habit? 2. Is being a creature of habit a good or a bad thing?). while the students watch the video they should answer 2 general questions about it. Then they learn some phrases about habits and match them with their definitions. After that, they are given 2 opposing opinions about routines and discuss which one they agree with. then listen to a conversation and answering a question about it. Finally they should work in small groups discussing the two opinions and decide who is and isn't a creature of habit and is it good or bad to be a creature of habit. Speaking and fluency is the main aim of the lesson.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students have a class discussion about whether they follow similar routines or not in these fields: exercise, food and drink, getting ready in the morning, meeting friends, shopping. Also they talk about the areas that they like to change and do things differently

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production through a video

The Students watch the video and answer the 2 general questions.

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students read 6 sentences in a handout with highlighted target language and match them with their meanings.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide a model of production through a listening track

students read 2 opinions and listen to the recording and decide which opinion was discussed in the recording and do they agree or not.

Productive Task(s) (6-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students discuss the two opinions in groups and decide who is and isn't a creature of habit and whether they consider it good or bad.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher takes notes of the mistakes and write them on the board
