Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of sharing anecdotes

  • By the end of this lesson, Ss will have practiced reacting to anecdotes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows students a slide with three different pictures. T explains that these pictures illustrate somethng that happened to her a few days ago. T asks Ss to try to guess what happened. T shares what actually happened.

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T two questions on the chat: When was the last time something interesting happened to you? Do interestng things happen to you often? T asks Ss to discuss both questions in breakout rooms. T demos an answer. T sends Ss to discuss. T conducts OCFB.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. Starting a story. Model sentence: A funny thing that happened this morning... CCQ: Was this a bad or a good experience? (a good experience?) CCQ: How do you know it? (because it says it was funny) Model sentence: I had a bad experience last year... CCQ: Does this person like or dislike the experience? (dislike it) CCQ: How do you know they dislike it? (Because they say it was a bad experience) 2. Responding to a story. Model sentence: Oh no! CCQ: Does this phrase show anger or sympathy? (sympathy) Model sentence: You´re joking! CCQ: Does this phrase show happiness or suprise? (Surprise) 3. Ending a story, Model sentence: I was so embarrassed! CCQ: Does this phrase show a positive or a negative feeling? (negative) CCQ: Do you people to notice it or ignore it (ignore it) Model sentence: It was all OK in the end. CCQ: Is this expression positive or negative? (Positive) CCQ: Was the result satisfactory or not (It was satisfactory)

Initial productive task (7-9 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T provides students with a list of three events. T asks Ss to read their events using one of the expressions seen. T says the peers have to react to the statements using the expressions learned. T sends Ss to breakoutrooms for them to complete the task. T conducts OCFB

Follow-up productive task (11 minutes) • To provide freer practice of target speaking skills

T screenshares a series of questions on the screen. T provides 2-3 minutes for Ss to think about their answers. T asks Ss to say an anecdote that has occured to them recently using their notes. Try to use the target language. Ss discuss in breakout rooms.

Feedback and Error Correction (7-9 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T conducts OCFB T uses Zoom board to identify incorrect sentences. T asks CCQ´s for Ss to identify the errors.
