To elicit and introduce Ss to the vocabulary of 'Family'
Subsidiary Aims

To provide scan and gist reading practice using a family webpage become familiar with the vocab relationships withinthe family.
Procedure (38-49 minutes)
Show a picture of a family (My own family) Hand it around to Ss Have Ss call out vocabulary discussion style. Ask again & Write the words on the board. Aim for: Mother, Father, Son, Daughter, Family. Grandmother, Grandfather, Sister, Brother, Husband & Wife. Have Ss come to the board and label the family with prepared labels. Drill the the words and stress on pronunciation. Elicit Grandparents, Parents, Children. Drill and Repeat.
Put the labels to one side of the board. Write this question on the board. '' Where is this family from?'' Tell Ss, Read this quickly. Answer this question.Give (1 min) Give out text. Tell Ss to compare answers. Tell students to read text again and answer a handout of questions. Compare answers with partner. Feedback
Feedback of reading text. 1 student at a time comes to W/B to write answers to questions. Students agree or disagree if answers are correct.
Go over pronunciation vocabulary (paying special attention to the 'r' sounds) Show labels.Show stress pattern. Drill if necessary. CCQ How many sisters? Do I have a brother?
Give instructions of the crossword puzzle. Write ''CROSSWORD'' on W/B Make sure students know 'Down' & 'Across' Demonstrate......draw the crossword on W/B One to each S. Compare answers with partners. Stick answer key in different places in class and let students correct.
I want to know about Ss family. Demonstrate a profile card to class. Give 3 blank profile cards to each S. Monitor.
Ask Ss to tell 3 different people 1 person they wrote about. Feedback- Invite Ss to tell class about a classmates family
