Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about traveling

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enhance students' understanding and usage of words in writing.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shows students some picture and asks them to guess the country. They discuss together. Then, in pairs, they answer some questions seen on the board.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher shows some sentences in which the to-be-learnt vocabulary is used. They discuss the meanings of the words together and do a matching activity on WooClap.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The teacher asks students to look at the main and subheadings. Ask them to predict what the text is about. Next, they read very fast and the teacher asks, 'What is the text about?' they discuss in pairs.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

This time, students read the text in detail, and they tick the topics she talked about in the text. They discuss what the girl in the text says about the answers with their partners.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher asks students to discuss their last trip with a partner. She provides some guiding questions for students to talk about.
