Dilemmas
Intermediate, B1 level

Description

In this lesson, the students develop their integrated skills by eliciting the topic of ‘Dilemmas’ with the followed brainstorming of what they think Fiona’s dilemma is. The main part is running dictation of the sentences from the story and then putting the whole story in order. Finally, there is a freer speaking about what Fiona should do.

Preparation for reading (3-5 minutes) • To brainstorm Fiona’s dilemma in pairs

T tells the Ss they are going to read about a girl called Fiona and her dilemma. T shows a picture and elicits a few ideas. T puts the Ss into pairs (A & B). T tells the Ss to discuss what they think Fiona’s dilemma is. T gives each pair a copy of the picture.

Running dictation (15-17 minutes) • To make the students read, dictate and write the sentences from the story

T tells the Ss they are going to read to find out more about Fiona’s dilemma. T warns the Ss the story is cut up, on the walls round the classroom. T tells the Ss that As ( red colour paper) will run, read and remember 6 sentences one by one and come back and dictate the sentence to their partner. T tells Bs (yellow colour paper) that they will read another 6 sentences and As will write. T demos this.
