Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide a list of vocabulary, palces, that students can use after visiting a city through a context. Also to teach them how to pronounce one or two-syllabled words correctly.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency and accuracy, through controlled practice and freer practice, through a real context about Istanbul.
Procedure (38-53 minutes)
I will start the class by sticking a picture of a "tourist in Istanbul" in the middle of the WB. ask questions: 1-do you know this city? 2-what can you see in the city? 3-where do you go in the city? 4- what are famous places? for each question I will ask them to find the answer in pairs.
I will stick different famous places in Istanbul on the WB and ask the name of these places from the students. They should not answer at the beginning, first they need to talk together, make sure about their names then tell the names to me. After that I will write these names on the WB with some space between them.
I will ask them to come to the WB and stick the pictures to the related names. Then I will write the TL next to the pictures; like: airport, bridge, park and etc. Here I read the TL for them and they should repeat after me. Then another group will come and stick the signs on page 60(HO1) next to the appropriate name. After that I remove the pictures and stick them in the wrong places. They should correct me. This is regarded as a controlled practice
Then as a semi controlled practice I will write a dialogue model on the WB : A: Excuse me I want to go to ........?Where is it? B: It is on/in ......................street/.... They are required to make a conversation in pairs. I will change their place and ask them to talk with other partners.
I will give them the HO2 and ask them to listen to cd track no.2.8; they should put the words in the appropriate column. Here I will use the " dah dah dah " pattern melodically. At the end I will read some more words for them to put in the right place. They can check their answers from the answer key on the WB As a freer practice they can talk about Istanbul with the TL together.
