Description

This lesson aims to develop students' speaking skills in the context of planning leisure activities. Students will be introduced to specific lexis related to leisure pursuits and will engage in interactive speaking tasks to discuss and plan 'Time Out' activities, thereby enhancing their fluency and communicative competence in leisure activity-related conversations.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Communication in the context of Leisure activities.
  • The main aim of this lesson is to enable students to effectively use specific lexis for speaking in the context of planning leisure activities related to the theme "Time Out." The lesson aims to equip students with the vocabulary and communication skills necessary to discuss and plan leisure activities using a range of relevant expressions and phrases, thereby enhancing their fluency and communicative competence in the context of leisure activities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • The sub-aims are: 1. Introducing and clarifying the meaning, form, and pronunciation of specific lexis related to leisure activities. 2. Engaging students in meaningful speaking tasks that require the use of the target lexis to plan and discuss leisure activities. 3. Providing opportunities for students to practice fluency and accuracy in spoken English within the context of planning "Time Out" activities. 4. Offering delayed error correction to reinforce accurate use of the target lexis.

Procedure

1. Lead-in (8 minutes) • To engage students in a brief discussion about "Time Out" activities

- Set the context on the topic "Time Out" (e.g., Going Sightseeing, Going to a Concert, Going to an Art Gallery) using Google Slides or relevant images. - Engage students in a brief discussion about "Time Out" activities, encouraging them to share their ideas in planning leisure activities. - Play audio (Speakout - Pre-Intermediate Class Audio 3.1 - Rafael “I’m going to the Museum” Phrases with “going to….”

2. MFP of the phrases (Going to…) - Target Lexis (7 minutes) • To introduce 4-5 phrases/lexis relevant to leisure activities

- Introduce 4-5 phrases/lexis relevant to leisure activities, such as "going sightseeing," "visiting an art gallery," "attending a concert," "exploring the city," etc. - Clarify the meaning, form, and pronunciation of each phrase/lexis, ensuring students understand and can accurately use these expressions in speaking.

3. Speaking Task 1 - (15 minutes) • To provide a speaking task for students to use the target lexis

- Provide a speaking task that requires students to use the target lexis with a guided discussion related to planning leisure activities. - Monitor as students engage in the task to prepare feedback in DEC step of the lesson.

4. Speaking Task 2 - (10 minutes) • To instruct students to engage in the speaking task in pairs using the target lexis

- Instruct students to engage in a speaking task in pairs using the target lexis to plan their own leisure activities related to the "Time Out" theme. - Monitor the discussions to provide feedback on the use of the target lexis in DEC.

5. Delayed Error Correction (5 minutes) • To provide delayed error correction

- Provide delayed error correction by addressing any common errors or inaccuracies observed during the speaking tasks, and encourage students to make necessary corrections.
