Description

In this lesson students are going to learn how to use past simple to talk about completed actions in the past through PPP in the context of holiday. They will have a conversation using past simple in the same context at the end of the class.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start the class by talking about how I spent my last weekend.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I ask my students to talk about how they spent their weekend.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will choose 3 of my students' sentences and I write them in the correct form on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and show my students that this tense is used to talk about completed actions in the past. I will mention that we can mention the exact time in this tense. (sub + past simple form of the verb) The structure of past simple will be covered mentioning regular and irregular verbs. The pronunciation of the verbs like "said" and "read" will be covered as well.

Controlled Practice (10-13 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will ask my students to go to page 120 of the student's book. They will answer the questions in par A in 5 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to compare their answers with a partner and we will check the answers with the whole class at the end.

Free Practice (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask my students to talk about their last holiday in groups of 4 in 8 to 10 minutes. They will be monitored and if they have any errors with no peer correction or self-correction, They will receive feedback on, at the end.
