Subsidiary Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in To set lesson context and engage students. (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

First, I am going to be talking about friends in general and the different terms used to describe friendship in generel. In the meantime, students will also have access to a handout that I provide them with which also features some pictures that set the context pretty well. By also asking the class some general questions including how or when they met their friends, I will also be eliciting their knowledge of other grammar tenses

Exposure-setting the context (7-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

We are going to dive even deeper into the lesson by showing them some pictures of different people who spend time together at different places, to teach them topic specific vocabulary while also choral drilling. Then, I'm going to ask some of them about their own experiences, so that they answer me with sonething similiar ( the goal is to achieve accuracy at this point )

Presentation (7-9 minutes) • To have a gist task to check their prediction and then listening for more details.

Now, the students are going to listen to an audio file to only gist and write down whatever information they catch from it, after which I put them in closed pairs so that they share and check the info together. When they're done, I ask everyone to read their notes out loud. In the end, I'll ask some CCQs to check their understanding of the audio file.

Clarification and more (7-9 minutes) • To clarify and adress a common misunderstanding among english speakers.

At this stage, right before proceeding to the next question, I'm going to elicit and check students' understanding of the difference between possessive pronouns and contractions which are used in the questions of the next exercise itself. Then, they are also going to listen to the audio file once again to quickly answer the questions.

Free practice with a speaking part (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I have designed a game in which students get devided in groups of 3 or 4 and I will give 12 prompts and two dices to each group. The number rolled corresponds to a specific prompt from the list and each student must talk about it for about a minute or so. The focus here is on fluency.
