Procedure (34-48 minutes)
Show the pictures to the Ss and they try to describe them in pairs/groups then tell them in open class.
Play the recording and Ss match each conversation to one of the pictures. They compare their answers in pairs/groups. Check them as a class.
Ss do the 2nd activity in pw- they need to be careful about the correct form of the verb- in 2 minutes. Play the record again, they check and I nominate them to tell answers. Talk about the meaning. Some CCQs like Do I still hold the camera? No. Is it still safe? No. Did I hurt my head? Yes. etc. Model and drill pronunciation and show stress.
Tell Ss that we can use these structures to talk as to how accidents happen. Ss work in pairs/groups and match the three stems with the rest of the sentences. I nominate Ss and they tell the answers, others say if they agree. Elicit the structures from the Ss: on the way to+noun; of+Ving; was trying to+infinitive (V1).
Ss do the ex-3b in pairs, while they are doing, I will write on WB: I was on the way to + .... I was in the middle of+....I was trying to+.... Elicit the endings from Ss. Then show an example on WB "I was on the way to the shops when I dropped my keys" They complete other sentences with a partner. I walk around them and help necessary. Get FB from Ss and write some of them on WB.
Ss talk about an accident using what they have learned in groups. I just monitor them and do not interfere if not necessary. After they discuss, in open class I will ask "Do you think yourselves accident-prone? Why?
