Main Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of new men
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide practice of quantifiers in the context of new men and family
Procedure (34-57 minutes)
Tell the sts about my family using quantifiers. This will become a model for them to write and speak about their own families later in the lesson.
Ask sts to write 10 sentences about their families. Tell them they can also write about the ideal families, their childhood families or their future families. Sts work individually.
Elicit one sentence each from a few sts. Ask WC how would they respond to what what they are told and ask follow-up questions. ex. All of the men in my family like to cook. That's unusual! Can all of them cook well? Not really, but they try. ex. Everyone in my family likes watching cartoons. Really? Why? Because we turned on cartoons for our boy, then we ended up liking them too. What cartoons do you watch? Sesame Street, Peppa Pig and Pocoyo. Elicit more possible responses/ To show interest (I'm listening) Really? Oh, really? That's interesting. Hmm. Reacting to things you are told (more engaged than just showing interest): How interesting. That must be …. (nice, annoying, fun, etc.) That's... (fantastic, amazing, great, funny, crazy, etc.) You must be kidding! Are you serious? Follow up questions: What/When/Where/Why/How/Who/Do you/they... What do you think of that? Why do they like cooking? How do they help you with the housework? Where do they like to go? When do they sleep at night? Do you think it's good for them?
Sts work in pairs, take turns to tell your partner about your "family". Response and ask follow-up questions. If some sts finish early they can find other people to talk with.
Ask sts what are the most interesting things they found out about their partners' families. Give some feedback on how they did, fluency-wise and grammar-wise. Can read out some errors and ask WC to correct them.
