  • To have students produce the language in a more controlled environment.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T starts the class greeting everyone. - T then starts screen sharing his screen to complement the visuals on his story. - T tells students "Yesterday at night when I was trying to sleep, I was thinking... If I won the lottery, I would buy a mansion and a sports car." - T elicits 1-2 students' answers to the question "What would you do if you won the lottery?" - T connects the teachers' experience to the topic of today "Second Conditional!"

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- T starts screen sharing the Google Forms, where he presents the text and gives instructions "Now, individually, you are going to read the text and choose the heading that best describes each paragraph. You are going to have 3 minutes to complete this activity." - T asks ICQ's: - Is it individual or in teams? - How much time do you have? 3 or 5 minutes? - Are you choosing headings or are you writing the headings? - T sends the Google Slides link. - Students read the text and answer the activity. - The correct answers are: - 1.- Dreaming big - 2.- Traveling through time - 3.- In a world of super abilities - 4.- Reflecting on possibilities - T checks the answers and gives OCFB

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T starts screen sharing the Google Slides. - T tells students "Very good, everyone. You are going to find the slide with your name, look for it in slides 2-5. Now, individually you are going to highlight the sentences with the second conditional. You are going to have 2 minutes to do so" - Students do the activity. - T checks the students answers and gives assistance if needed.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

FOR THE MEANING - T starts screen sharing the Canva presentation. - T asks students "When do we use the second conditional?" and show an example. - T asks students which answer do they think is the correct one. - Students answer. - T tells them that the correct answer is letter A. - T tells students "We use the second conditional to talk about present or future HYPOTHETICAL or UNREAL situations." FOR THE FORM. - T again shows a different example "If we didn’t have these dreams, life would be much less exciting." - T asks students which of the two options is the correct for the form. - The correct answer is "A) If + subj + simple past verb, subj + would + base form verb" - T tells students that it is not obligatory to have the "If clause" before the "Result clause". - T tells students "You can switch the “If clause” and the “Result clause”, you just need to erase the comma." - T shows an example of this. FOR THE PRONUNCIATION - T starts screen sharing a Google Forms. - T tells students "Now, I am going to play an audio and you are going to choose the correct stress pattern in the sentence." - T sends the Google Forms (Pronunciation) link. - T plays the audios - Students listen and do the activity. - T checks students answers and gives feedback.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T starts screen sharing the Google Forms where students are going to complete a controlled practice. - T gives instructions "Individually, you are going to complete the sentences with the verbs in the brackets using the second conditional. You are going to have 4 minutes to do so." - T asks ICQ's: - Is it individual or are you talking to a partner? - How much time do you have? 4 or 5 minutes? - T sends the Google Forms (Controlled Practice) link. - Students do the activity. - T gives OCFB and explains any doubts that the students may have.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- T tells students that he is going to send them to breakout rooms in pairs to discuss some questions for 8 minutes. - T projects the prompts that they are supposed to speak about. - The prompts are: - What would you do if you were invisible for a day? - What would you do if you could time travel? - How would you spend your time if you didn’t have to work for a living? - What would you do if you could meet any person from history? - T sends the students to BORs. - T sends the prompts to the chat so that the students can see it even if they are in BORs. - Students talk with their partner. - T moves between the multiple BORs to monitor and assist if needed. - After the 8 minutes have passed, T brings back everyone to the main room. - T asks 1-2 students to share what they talked about with their partners. - T thanks students for their participation and says goodbye.
