Procedure (43-55 minutes)
Students are told to think and write 3 things men do and 3 things women do, and 3 things that men and women do in their countries. Example: Men hunt, women knit and they both work. the students check and compare each others answers. Elicit two or three students answers orally.
The students are given the text. They are told to look at the bold and underlined words. Give the students handout a) ans b). they work individually and answer the questions. Distribute handout c) and d). The students again work individually and answer the questions. The students compare answers. Elicit the answers and correct the ones which are answered incorrectly. Refer to language analysis page for clarification of meaning.
Explain that quantifiers are used when talking about a number of things or people. This can be 2 or more or zero amount, depending on what is being spoken about. check with some CCQs for the meaning. Explain the form of the quantifiers. the students look at the text again for modals.
Students are handed the activity. They are told to choose and circle the correct answer for each sentence. The students Peer check and compare answers. The students work together and decide which of the sentences are true for them. students speak and listen to others. Give whole class feedback.
The conversation between Ken and Sheena is given to the students. they work on their own and fill in the gaps with the words provided in the box. Monitor, prompt students who are having difficulties. Students peer check their answers. Read the completed text for the students to get the correct answers. Pause at every gap and elicit the correct word from the whole class. Correct the class if they get it wrong.
Put the students into small groups. (4) Tell them that they are going to look at the conversation between Ken and Sheena. Remembering the reading done in the previous lesson, the groups will discuss weather or not if Ken is a New man. The students must support their ideas with examples. Monitor and join into the groups, state your own ideas too. If there is extra time, ask the students to use the quantifiers and give examples about the class. Example: all of the teachers are girls, both of us have long hair, in the class, no one speaks Russian.
