Procedure (40-52 minutes)
To get the Ss engaged with the topic, write on the board: Yesterday: -A man was fined 1000tl. -A girl was crying. -They missed their flight. (The Ss, referring back to the grammar they learned in the previous lesson), They work in pairs and come up with 2 possibilities that had happened. Example: the man had been speeding, he had crossed a red light.. Elicits some interesting ideas and take note on the board.
The controlled practice is given to the students. The students work individually and complete the sentences. Explain that the sentences need to become true for them. Monitor, prompt students who has difficulties. If needed, briefly go over the forms of the past tenses to clarify each student knows. This will be necessary for the students in completing the other tasks.
Group the students into threes. The students listen to their friends. They ask follow up questions for more information. Example:I had been living in in Cyprus for 2 years when i met Hillary. - Where did you meet? How did you meet? Why had you been living in Cyprus? Monitor from a far, take notes of some frequent mistakes. Give whole class feedback
To get the students engaged, elicit types of movies form the class. listen and take notes on the board. ex: Horror, Comedy, Thriller, Action, Romantic, etc. Underline Thriller and put students into pairs. They are told that they will create the outline of a story. A worksheet of the pictures are given to each pair. The whole class goes over the pictures to check understanding, The students are informed that their story must include one character, one object and one one place. The students work in pairs and create a story. (taking notes are optional) Once they have completed the stories, the students are put into groups of threes. They orally explain their stories to their group members. Monitor and take notes on the notepad for feedback.
Elicit 1 or 2 of the stories. using the note pad as a reference, go over the errors that was heard. give whole class feedback.
