To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about social media in the context of conversation between friends.
Procedure (44-56 minutes)
teacher will elicit the topic of what we are going to talk about today (internet) by showing sts some clues (the sound of dial-up connection) using projector. How often do you use the computer? why? sts do it in pairs and then open class.
Pre listening: teacher present sts to important vocabularies using pictures project on the WB. listening for gist: after that sts will listen to 4 conversations and they try to find the title for each. sts check answers together. listening for info: then they will listen again and fill the gaps sts check in pairs and then open class.
Teacher goes back to the conversations and tries to elicit the meanings of some important words and phrases.
teacher teaches some important phrases, elicits stress in the sentences. and drill the important ones.
sts are asked to make similar conversations (like the ones in the listening) each pair will be making one of the conversation sts work in pairs and then teacher asks some couple to present their conversation to open class.
