Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide practice reading and producing irregular verbs in the past simpel tense in the context of celebrations
Procedure (40-52 minutes)
Focus students on the pictures with kids playing in the show. Elicit from the students who they are and what they were doing. Do you remember these people? What did they do? This winter, it snowed, remember? We went to the park. It was very cold. Our kids slid down the hill. We made snow angels. We had so much fun.
ex.1 Students will individually look back at the three blog entries and underline 12 irregular verbs. Do not include WAS. Then Ss will compare their answers with a partner. And have them write the past and infinitive form of the verb. One at a time, they should write them on the board? (They will also be on a PPT slide. Teacher can drill the sentence fragments including the past form of the verbs.
Ss will then fill in the blanks (with a partner) and then the students will read individually one sentence at a time. This will provide the opportunity for students to peer check and for teacher to catch any mistakes.
Ss will focus on exercise 3? In partners, students will identify the answers. As a class the teacher will nominate students to fill in the blanks and then drill the sentences together. Possibly have students stand up and write in the blanks. Focus on pronunciation, allowing time for marking the stress.
Ss will work individually to unscramble the questions. Then students will check their answers in pairs. With the teacher they will drill the questions. Have the students turn to eachother and ask the questions? Focus on tone? Teacher will have the students think for about 30 seconds to decide on a birthday party, wedding, new year's eve party or other to talk about. Do you have it? Ok,
Teacher will assign the questioner and the answerer and Ss will work in pairs asking the questions to eachother and responding.
While monitoring, teacher will have taken notes and will write them on the board to correct as a class.
