Description

In this lesson the students are going to learn some key words to understand the reading text. The teacher gives them some tasks related to the reading content to see how was their comprehension of the reading context .

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about To be familiar with Kung Vonnegut, Billy Dee Williams, Adele biographies in the context of Self-portraits

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Self-portraits

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher starts talking about self-portraits and ask them to look at the pictures on page 55 .Then the teacher asks them if they know any of the three people .

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage the teacher is going to teach the students some key words and new words of the content such as '' escape, prison camp, bestseller, anti-war, soldier ''by using some pictures to help them learn better . The students are going to do some practices to understand better thot to use these words in context and they will check the answers in pairs and at the end with whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students are going to do exercise b on page 54 and number the events in correct order, 1_3 . They are given 3 minutes to do this task and then they will check the answers in pairs and then with whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The teacher is going to put the students in pair groups and ask them to do exercise c on page 54 .The teacher gives them 6 minutes to read the context deeper and try to memorize the details and then they need to cover the biographies and try to say 3-5 important events about every person .

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher is going to elicit the question in exercise d on page 54 and ask them '' Which of the four self-portraits in this lesson do you like the most ? Why ?'' and let them discuss about it in small groups .
