Show the picture to Ss and ask "Who are they?" to get their attention and have brainstorming before the video. Elicit the answers. (My family) Say "They are Haydar, Fatma and Berk." and let them watch the video first. After watching video, ask "Who are they?" again and elicit the answers; father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, wife, children, parents. Drill the vocabulary with their stresses.-Individual and group drills- Before distributing Exercise 1; show the picture again and ask "Who is my father" and elicit the answer "Haydar". Then hand out exercise 1 and ask them to look at the sentences and write the names to the blanks. Hand out the answer key. They check the answers in pairs.
Show the picture on pg 24 on WB. Ss will talk to their partners about what they see in the picture for two minutes. Monitor them while they are talking (If there is a vital mistake, T may get delayed correction after speaking). Then hand out Exercise 2. They need to complete the table with the words in the box. Stick answer key on the wall and ask them to come and check their answers. Afterwards, ask if they have any different answers.
Hand out Exercise 3 and ask them to circle the correct words about the family on the picture. Do the first one as an example and let them do the rest. Afterwards, play the recording R3.7 on page 24 and ask them to listen and check their answers. While they are listening, monitor them. They will compare their answers with their partners.
Use a sentence from Exercise 3; "Fiona is Kevin's mother." Explain that we use 's for things that we have and for family relationships. Write these sentences on WB - "Berk is Nevin's brother" or "He is Nevin's brother" - "Nevin is Berk's brother" or "She is Berk's brother" Name / noun + 's for the possessive. - Fatma is Nevin and Berk's mother. (Explain if there are two names, the 's goes after the second name only) Hand out Exercise 4 and ask them to write the sentences in pairs. Show the answer key on the computer, let them check their answers and ask if they have any different answers.
Show Ss the picture that you used in warm-up. Ask them to come to the board and make a circle. Ask them to ask 3 questions about the people they see on the picture to their partner. They are expected to use family vocab and possessive 's. Each pair ask and answer 3 questions to each other. They do this activity with two different partners. Meanwhile, monitor Ss and take down notes. At the end of the activity, write two or three sentences on WB and ask them to correct the mistakes.
