Procedure (43-68 minutes)
Get sts into groups of 4. Give them handout for the vocabulary game. Tell them, they will think of jobs that start with those letters and write them down. I will give them 1-2 mins and call times up. Each group report what they got. The group with the most answers win. Give them an applause.
Tell sts to read a description of a job in ex. 1 and guess the job. Sts work individually. Check in pairs. WC FB. Tell sts to think of another job and make 3 sentences about it. Read your sentences to partners. Your partner must guess the job. Give an example. Tell sts they can use the underlined words to make sentences. Ex. I work for a school in Levant. I work with students to help them learn English. It's not very well-paid but it's a nice job. What do I do. Sts do ex. 2. Monitor. Ask 2 students to read their sentences to the class. The class guess.
Prepare sts for vocabulary ex 1 by asking some questions Is job countable? Is work countable? Do job and work mean the same thing? Does career mean the same thing? Give handouts. Sts do ex. 1 in pairs. WC FB. Ask sts if they know what a dancing chicken does? Have them guess why? What is Brad Pitt's career? Was dancing chicken his career? What will be my career?
Give handouts for vocabulary ex. 2. Sts work in group of 4. Write down on WB in charge fired work out earned responsible Then ask the students to give the answers. Write on WB in charge ... of something fired ... from a job / a place work ... as something out ... of work earned ... a living responsible ... for something
Vocabulary ex 3. Elicit meaning of "out of work". If you're out of work, are you working? Sts use the TL to tell stories to partners in pairs. Ask for a volunteer or pick a sts to demonstrate. Monitor.
