Travel lesson , simple past lesson

Description

In this lesson students learn about some words related to travel. They have learnt past tobe verbs in the previous lesson but it is the first time that they deal with regular past simple verbs. Reading is the main aim of this lesson and listening part is included as subsidiary aim. Each part of the lesson finishes with a question that challenges students' speaking skills.

  • To provide specific information listening practice about travel problems in the context of travel
  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in questions in the context of travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

At this stage as I am using body language, I tell them about what I did yesterday using regular simple past verbs and as I am modelling the sentences, I emphasize on -ed at the end of the verbs.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

students start reading the text quickly according to get the gist. Then they should answer the asked questions and share their ideas. It is time to underline the irregular verbs and use the verbs in a sentence.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

This lesson has two parts which students should put the sentences in the correct order to complete the story. Students should do this part as a group work and at last each group can start talking about the story and continue it.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are provided with a teacher made practice based on the simple past grammar. students should choose and circle the correct form the verbs.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In this teacher made practice some verbs are given to the students that they already familiar with them. They should fill the gaps using the correct form of the verbs.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

After listening to part f, in each group or pair students should take notes about the asked question and share it with others while I am monitoring their speaking skills and noticing their errors.
