Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide scan reading practice using a text about informal letter in the context of daily life.
Procedure (40-47 minutes)
First, I will ask ss if they have any friends they haven't seen for a long time. And then I will ask ss to discuss 3 things they expect from a letter which is sent by that friend. They will compare their answers in pairs.
Ss will read an informal letter written by a friend to another friend. They will try to find if the text includes their ideas as well. And then they will check it in pairs and after checking it, pairs will write the numbers of the paragraphs on the board.
SS will find the expressions that the writer used to start, summarise, change the subject and conclude her letter. They will work in pairs and take down notes. And they will compare their answers with another pair. I will do a language analysis on the lexis the ss would find out in the letter.
I will ask ss to write a letter to a friend, relative or a colleague who they haven't seen for a long time. I will give an outline sheet to make them think and brainstorm before writing the letter. I will also give some useful language samples to help their task. After writing their outlines, they will check their ideas in pairs.
Ss will organise their ideas that they wrote in the outline and they will write a letter to a friend individually. They will have the chance to use the format that they read in the letter. After finishing their letters, they will check their letters in pairs.
After ss finish their letters, they will stick them on the wall and each ss will read their classmates' task and they will decide whose life has changed most.
