To give Ss practice in writing a speech using future forms in the context of (optimism,pessimism)

To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a discussion and conversation in the context of (optimism,pessimism)
Procedure (36-45 minutes)
Ask Ss this ; (Imagine that you are the president of the country now, what will your future plans be? ) Ss discuss it in pairs. FB
Write the following categories on the board: crime, health care , childcare ,leisure , the environment, transport, the economy,education. Then write the following sentence:The days of free medicine for everyone are just around the corner. Ss match the optimistic statement to one of the categories on the board.
Tell Ss they are going to have a class election so they will have to create political party. Put Ss into pairs or groups of three.Tell them they are going to do something similar like in the "useful language" stage . Ask Ss to write two optimistic statements about two of the categories on the board. Monitor. FB;Elicit answers from the groups . Ask the rest of the class to listen and guess which category they belong to. Keep Ss in the same groups and tell them that they are going to write an optimistic speech in their groups ,they will then give the speech to the class. Distibute the worksheets to each group. (remind the Ss to give themselves party name). Ss now complete the information on the worksheet for their speech. Monitor.
When Ss have finished ,ask each group to decide which part of the speech they would like to give. Then ask them to rehearse the speech quietly in their groups.
Ss in their groups present their speech to the rest of the class for the class election. (one bye one a student from each group comes to the middle of the class and read their speech). The rest of the class must listen and decide which of the speeches presents the most optimistic future for their country . Ss work in their groups to vote for the most optimistic speech and say why they think it is. Monitor. FB. Correct errors.
