Description

In this lesson the students will be able to practice functional language related to going out. The students will practice invitations, suggestions and responding language. the lesson will model a script, after giving the students controlled practice. finally there will be semi-controlled practice.

Materials

Abc choose the correct verb hand out, gap-fill handout, tape-script 1.40-1.14

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for invitations and suggestions in the context of going out

  • To provide development in their spoken accuracy

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

to generate interest, start with a game 'back to the board' using the words invitation and suggestion. Check thy understand the difference and get them to do exercise 1.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Give the students the handout of the tape-script 1.40/1.41. the students check the script and underline the invitations, suggestions and responses. The teacher writes an example (some friends are coming for dinner, would you like to come?). after we will have WC and check understanding.

Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The students work in pairs and check exercise 2 in their handouts. Using the highlighted language in the tape-script, the students choose the correct verb form for each expression. Students peer-check and later get whole class feedback.

Language Analysis (8-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

the teacher presents the form of the expressions; would you like + to + V1.. Shall we + V1.. Why dont we + V1.. How about + V-ing.. to the cinema? What about + v-ing.. Let's V1.. to the cinema. After clarification, the teacher works on intonation for responding politely to suggestions and invitations made by the students.

Planning (6-8 minutes) • Controlled practice

The students fill in the gaps in exercise 3 individually. After they peer check and then get whole class feedback from the teacher. the students then complete the dialogues with the sentences in activity 4.

Semi-controlled Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Student have a semi-controlled practice. the students choose place cards which the students have to invite another student. student 2 chooses a response card either accepting or declining using the practiced language.
