Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide practice of vocabulary items related to hotel facilties in the context of holiday
Subsidiary Aims
-
To give students freer speaking practice for using vocabulary related to hotel facilities to help their spoken fluency
Procedure (45-47 minutes)
I will tell the students that the topic of our lesson is "hotels". I will tell them to imagine that they will stay in a seaside hotel and ask them to work in pairs (or groups, depending on the number of the students) and discuss and agree on 5 most important things that a hotel must have. I will get some answers from the students and write the interesting ones on the white board.
I will give the handout of Straightforward Student's Book Page 50 to the students and ask them to do exercise 1. Before they start, I will clarify the meanings of "location", "hotel facilities", "room", and "room facilities" eliciting the answers from the students. I will ask the students to work in pairs and complete the form. I will be monitoring if the students need any help about the meaning of any word. I will use an answer key to check the answers, reflecting the filled form on the board. Next, I will have some pronunciation practice, showing the stress on the board. I will use the answer key itself instead of writing the words over again, as the answer key already contains all the target vocabulary.
I will give the students exercise 2 to do. I will ask the students to work in pairs and find the most important facilities for the described people. I will get some WC FB and ask the students to justify their answers asking "why?". I will continue with exercise 4. I will tell the students to work in pairs and interview the person next to him/her. Each student will ask the questions in exercise 4 to his/her partner and note down the answers. At the end, they will share their findings with the whole class.
I will monitor and note down the common errors that the students make during pair / group works or while getting whole class feedback and correct these errors on the white board.
