Description

In this lesson, the students are going to focus on grammar and speaking through practice. The lesson focus is on winning the battle against disease. The lesson will be designed to concentrate mostly on grammar with speaking toward the end of the lesson with various activities to use the grammar.

Materials

Main Aims

  • • To provide clarification and practice of future perfect and perfect continuous in the context of winning the battle agtainst diseases.

Subsidiary Aims

  • • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a pair work to discuss future goals and predictions about dieases and themselves.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Put up the photo of the reading from the previous lesson. - Last lesson, you discussed this reading about diseases the world is trying to eradicate. Do you think this is possible? -Have the Ss read the polio section of the reading. I will have them look for the target language... Hopes are high that... and Health workers will be.... - Ask the Ss to think of the tenses that are used in these two sentences.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Put the target language up on the board "Hopes are high.... Health workers will be..." Have the Ss discuss this in pairs.Which tense is it? - Take FB from the Ss -Teacher will put the form on the board of the tenses. - The Ss will explain the difference between the tenses. -Tt will put a chart on the WB: In pairs, the students will discuss when to use the future tenses. - Take Ss FB

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Ss will be asked what the situation is for with AIDS. Is it curable/ preventable? -Have the Ss read Exercise 7 on pg. 135 without writing anything. - In pairs, have the Ss discuss and answer the grammar activity. -Teacher will post the answer keys around the room for the students to check their answers.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- Get the Ss to notice the phrases in Ex. 7- "By the year..." and "Over the next twenty years..." -Have the Ss notice which future form those sentences take. -Put up the Vision 2020 photo. Ask them what goals does the WHO want to achieve by this time. Ask them do they think this is possible.They must use the future tenses when telling what the goals are by 2020.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-We all have goals - people, companies, etc. What are your goals for the next 1, 5, 10 and 30 tears? ** Put up the PowerPoint slide with this. The Ss will discuss these in pairs. For example: In 1 year, I will (Practice the contraction pronunciation I'll) be working in Adana. -Ask: Who has some optimistic goals for themselves? **Trying to tie in what we did last week.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-The Ss will be given a handout with information and questions to ask each other. Each student must respond using the correct Future Form.

Lesson Revision (2-3 minutes) • To provide an opportunity for Ss to identify and practice the tenses and form

-The Teacher will put up cartoons with sentences on them asking which tense is it

Lesson Extension/Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide an opportunity for Ss to identify and practice the tenses and form

In pairs, ask and answer questions what you will be doing at these times.
