Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about dangerous animals and insects

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of animals and insects

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask following questions Which animals are you afraid of? Which animal do you think is the most dangerous?

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will tell students the names of some animals using the pictures in the book I also will clarify the meaning of the words: poisonous, surround, involve and inject.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will ask the students to listen to the audio file and write the mentioned animals names in order from the least dangerous to the most dangerous. Then they'll check their answers in groups and they should support their ideas.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will give 5 mins to the students to read the questions on page 70 and guess the words that are missing. Then they will listen to the audio file again and fill the gaps individually and after we'll check the answers together.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

students will talk about following questions: Are any of these animals dangerous where you live? Have you ever had a bad experience with any of them? Do you own a pet? Or do you want to own a pet? Do you think it's right to keep animals in cages?
