Description

In this lesson, sts will be introduced to listening for gist and specific information through a context of weekend activities . The lesson starts with a lead-in about the weekend of four people (Mick,Sarah,Jane and Henry) and how it looked like.Sts will elicit from the picture (in two groups) the mood of these people and their attitudes toward the weekend.Sts will will discuss the meaning of the collocations in ex2a and use them in 2d .Sts will talk in pairs about six things they did last weekend (ex3a).After that, sts will be prepared to listen to two-conversation parts (Jane&Henry/Mick&Sarah),they will listen first for gist to figer out who are the speakers(ex4).Sts will listen again for specific information to answer the question (T/F) then check in pairs and WCFB.Sts will answer( ex 5a) in pairs after listening to the the coversation (R6.10) then check in pairs their answers.If time allows they will do (ex5b).

Main Aims

  • To provide sts a skill of listenting for gist and specific information through a coversation between two pairs in the context of weekend engagement.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide sts with clarification and more practice of the collocations related to the activities of weekend . To practise speaking for fluency in the context of sts' last weekend

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To introduce sts to the topic of weekend

I will ask sts about their weekend and how it was , where they spent it and with whom.After that I show them two pictures of co-workers and ask them some questions to elicit the answer about their(co-workers) weekend. Guess who are these people in this picture? What are they doing? Are they happy or sad?why? What are they talking about? Where are they sitting?

Pre-teaching vocab (5-7 minutes) • To test students knowledge about the vocab they know about the weekend.

I will ask sts to answer (ex2a) individually then have peer check and WCFB . Then I ask them to answer (ex 2c/2d) . I ask them to write in pairs 3 questions about their last weekend and answer them with a different pair.After that WCFB

While-teaching vocab (5-8 minutes) • To emphasise the meaning,pronounciation and form

I will elicit the meaning of the verbs(work,clean,write,do,go away ,sleep, be and have) with their collocation ,drill them and write them on the WB with form (N/V/PREP....)

Pre-listening (4-5 minutes) • To prepare sts for listening (for gist) to audio recording about weekend

I will put sts in the context of the coversation between to pairs talking about their last weekend and ask to know the name of each speaker in both coversations .

While-listening (7-10 minutes) • To practice listenting for specific information in the context of weekend

Sts listen to the audio and answer individually the question(ex4) about who the speaker is then check in pairs and WCFB. Sts listen again and answer quetions(T/F) from HO in pairs.Then WCFB

While-Listening (6-8 minutes) • To listen for specific information and match sentences (expressions of responses)

Sts read exercise (5a) and try to answer it in pairs ,then listen to the audio (R6.10) to check their answers .
