To provide the students with practice in reading for gist and specific information through a reading about Fact is always stranger than fiction.
Procedure (34-45 minutes)
-Do a quick recap of what the Ss have done in the previous lesson. What they have learned so far.
-Split the Ss into pairs. -Give the Ss the HO. Tell the Ss to focus on the pictures and to read the short stories. Ask them to find the correct story for each picture. -Monitoring -Peer Check -F/B
-Give the Ss a quick revision of The Present Perfect Simple and how and when it was used. -Explain that they are now going to go into The Past Perfect Simple Tense. -Visually show the Ss by a demonstration how and when it is used. -Draw a timeline on the board of the Past Perfect Tense. Elicit. -Show Past Perfect vs Past Simple using 'before' and 'by' -Examples. -F/B
-Now give the Ss Ex.2 HO -In pairs, give them a few mins to read the stories and match them to Ex.1 -Monitor -Peer Check -F/B
-Give the Ss the HO for the Activity -Again put them into pairs and explain that they will be matching the sentences of the communicative using the Past Simple and Past Perfect Tenses. -Monitor -Peer Check -F/B
