This lesson will be focused on reading called 'Why so clumsy?' We will be reading for gist and detail

Materials

Abc HO Ex.1
Abc HO Ex 3
Abc HO Ex.2 Reading

Main Aims

  • To provide practice in Reading for gist and Reading in Detail through a text.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of new vocabulary and to enable the students to have a clear understanding of the text.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Ask the Ss if they take a lot of 'risks'. -Talk about what kind of risks and why. -F/B

Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Give the Ss the HO on the quiz to answer. -split the Ss up into pairs and ask write on the board the following Qs. -Do you agree with what the answers say about you? & Think about people who take risks. Do they have a lot of accidents? -Peer check -F/B

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Ask the Ss to read the text quickly and underline the unknown vocabulary. -Elicit -Ask the Ss to read the sentences where the vocabulary is and try to understand its meaning. -Divide the Ss into pairs and ask them to compare their ideas of what they understand. -Monitoring -F/B

Reading for Detail (10-12 minutes) • To give Ss practice in reading for gist and specific information

-Ask the Ss to read the artice again slowly. -Give the Ss Ex.3 and ask them to read & answer the questions. -In pairs ask them to discuss their answers. -Have the Ss read the article again to check their answers.

Free Practice (5-6 minutes)

-Write on the board Ex.3b's Q. & have the Ss discuss their answers in pairs -Monitoring -Peer Check F/b
