Description

In this lesson ss are going to read a text about impatience in waiting for things. The lesson starts by asking this question: How often do you walk in your neighborhood? After pre-teach new vocabs, ss read the article and answer this question: what is the main reason why life is faster today?(gist task). Then ss answer 8 questions by reading the text thoroughly(deep reading). After that ss underline 5 technology words and I drill and model pronunciation of any tricky words. The lesson ends with answering this question as a free practice: which of the time wasting activities annoys you the most? why?

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The lesson starts by asking this question: How often do you walk in your neighborhood? questions to support: When you are walking along a street, do you feel frustrated when you are behind people who are walking more slowly? Have you ever had walking behind someone who is so slow? How do you feel about that? Do you think it is frustrating or enjoyable? what kind of people are usually slow?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-14 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I teach new vocabs that exist in reading and the questions comes after that(through PDF file)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

ss read the text in 1 minute and answer this question to give a general idea of the text: what is the main reason why life is faster today?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-18 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

ss answer 8 questions by reading the text thoroughly in 2 minutes in pairs and we check the answers after that. In the following, ss underline 5 technology words and I drill and model pronunciation of any tricky words.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
