In this lesson students will read about two different inventions Karaoke and the Ipod .The lesson will also cover some basic vocabulary and expressions related to inventions and great ideas .

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about inventions in the context of business ideas

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion and to provide clarification practice of vocabulary in the context of business ideas

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss some pictures for people who are listening and singing . Ask the students what are they doing ? Elicit some answers and put them on the W/B highlight the words (Karaoke - Ipod ) Elicit the meaning of them . Show them another pictures for Inoue Daisuke and Jonathan Ive the inventors of Karaoke and the Ipod and let them guess who are they ? FB

Pre-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss will read six facts from English Unlimited Intermediate Coursebook and try to predict which of these facts are about the inventor of : Karaoke - The Ipod

Initial Reading Task (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading

Jigsaw Reading ,Explain the jigsaw reading to the learners i.e.that pairs will read different articles and each learner will only check ideas about the article they have read . Learners can check with a partner who has read the same article . whole class feedback

Reading for details (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed and understanding of a reading text

Ex.3 Ss will look at the first summary and complete it in pairs by reading their paragraph in the article again . check learners' ideas for both articles , then let them continue in pairs . Give help as necessary . FB

Production, speaking activity 1 (6-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will be put in pairs A & B learners will use their summaries to explain the main points of their articles to their partner . FB get learners' views on the men's similarities and differences .

Follow -up activity 1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide Ss a practice of some expressions from the articles in the context of business idea .

Ex.4 Ss will focus on some expressions which are taken from the texts . They match each pair of sentences with a topic . FB Ex. 5 Ss will complete the questions with verbs from the expressions . Peer check before whole class feedback

Productive Task (Freer practice) (6-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will be in two groups A&B They will answer and discuss some questions from the previous exercise in an open class discussion . Give help as necessary FB
