Procedure (37-49 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start the class by talking about the things that I did last weekend.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I want my students to talk about the way they spent their weekend.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some of my students' sentences on the board in the correct past simple form.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board to clarify that this tense is used to talk about completed actions in the past.

Controlled Practice (10-13 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students are going to do exercise 1a on page 130 in the student's book individually in 5 minutes. They will first check their answers in pairs and then we will check with the whole class.

Free Practice (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are going to talk about their best holiday ever in groups of 4 in 10 minutes. They will be monitored and the feedback will be given to the whole class at the end.
