Procedure (38-45 minutes)
Warm-up (5 minutes) students talk and write on the board. Teacher writes on the board the following questions to set the context of the lesson. What do people do before Eid in Turkey? Shopping, or stay at home? (shopping) Do you like shopping? Yes! Teacher divides the board into two columns: 'Where?' and 'What?' Teacher invites sts in two groups to answer under the two columns: Where do you go shopping for Eid? …. What do you shop for Eid?
Activity two: Teacher chooses from the list above and drills adds: Pronunciation: a su'permarket - a bo'okshop- a dry cle'aner's - a ch'emist's – a b'utcher's - a p'ost office- a n'ewsagents Group Work: Match the places on the cards with things you buy: Modeling: (supermarket- food) Now, while on the board, sts looked at the collocated words, and think of simple sentences to say about them. Modeling & write-WB: The supermarket has food .. you get food from the supermarket! PW: now, sts sit and write three of those sentences they thought about on the board. Listening for gist. What is the topic of the listening activity? Who is talking? Where are they? Then listen! Listen again for specific information: Fill in the gaps. Teacher draws two columns WB: Alex - Martina Ask (what did they buy) and let Sts. come to the board to write under the columns. While listening, teacher writes on the board the following words in two big circles: shoes – shirts – shorts – make up – perfumes - sweets bread – fruits – water – grocery Which one do you like to shop? These ones or those ones? Those/these ONES! Teacher says: I like this one, not this one [from any circle] I like these ones, not these ones [from any circle] GW: sts talk about what they like using, I like this one, not this one [from any circle] I like these ones, not these ones [from any circle] Exercise 6: (groups) do like Robin!
