To give Ss practice in listening for gist, specific information & detail. To give Ss semi-controlled speaking practice & the opportunity to practice simple present.
Procedure (36-45 minutes)
Have the the students introduce themselves. After this begin to talk about our friends. Draw a spidergram on the board into two groups 'men friends' and 'women friends'. Under each heading ask the students to write a list of their names under each heading and then discuss who has the most female friends and male friends. After this, ask the students to make examples using the Present Simple Tense about their friends. ie. I go to the cinema with Paul on Mondays, I go shopping with Mark on Tuesdays. Split the students up into groups and ask them discuss what they do with their friends. Do feedback
- Show the picture cards to the Ss. Ask them what activities are they. - Referring to the questions ask the Ss 'what activities do you do with your friends' - Rephrase the sentence using 'usually'. 'What activities do you usually do with your friends. - Using CCQs explain 'usually' - Go through all of the word cards (show the words at the back of the cards)
Put picture cards on the walls. Split the Ss into pairs and have them match the word cards with the picture cards. F/B
- Give the Ss the HO - Elicit new vocabulary and meaning - Read Ex.1
- Listen to Ex 2 and ask the Ss to tick off the vocabulary they hear. - Give HO on Ex.3 and ask the Ss to listen again to the text and decide who the sentences are about 'men' or 'women' - Peer check
