Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of numbers in the context of playing games using numbers.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of plural s.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

you can group them using numbers. in your checklist, each student has a number. first read the number of each student aloud. then ask one of them to choose another number. tell them that you two are a pair. you work together. (using body language). now you can do it to the rest of the class.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

It's time for playing a game! you can play heart and bomb. you have prepared some pictures.stick them on the table. (e.g. card in tile 1 shows 6 books) at the end the group which has more hearts is the winner.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

ask CCQs while you're counting their points. group number one: two heart or two hearts? group two: one heart or three hearts? ask about the pronunciations of plural s.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

students are going to open their book, listen and read the numbers.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

play a game to practice dictation of words. give them scramble letters. they make the words using the letters. e.g. NEO= one/ WOT=two/ TREHE=three/ RUFO=four/ VEIF=five/ XIS=six/ VENES=seven/ TIGHE=eight/ ENNI=nine/ NET=ten.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

students are going to open their book page 11 and do part 3.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

ask students what's on the desk? (point to the books) they say: three books. then ask students to ask and answer about the class. what's in the class?/ what's in the bag?/ what's in the picture?
