Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of speaking for fluency in the context of talking about friends, their appearance, character and what they enjoy doing.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To incorporate listening activities into the speaking class to improve comprehension skills.
  • To engage in interactive communication to foster fluency and confidence.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. T shares screen on Jamboard (slide 1) with pictures of different people with different characteristics. 2. T asks Ss if they can describe this people. - What color are the eyes of this person? Blue - This person is tall or short? Tall - This person looks friendly or looks shy? Friendly - This person likes doing sports? Yes 3. T explains to Ss that this is how we describe people's appeareance, personality and what they like doing.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

GIST: 1. T tells Ss the next task: Ss will listen to audio CD3 16 about Leo and Tina talking about Leo's new girlfriend. They will have to answer in group "What is the name of Leo's new Girlfriend?" (Jamboard slide 2). The names will be on a slide in Jamboard. - Sara - Emily - Zoe (Answer) AWARENESS OF LAYOUT: 1. Ss will listen again the audio CD3 16 and will have to match in Jamboard (slide 3) answers 1-3 to a-c with information about Leo's new girlfriend. 2. Every S will have a slide labelled with their names to do this excersice, they will have min. 3. After they are done we will check the answers in group. - 1-b - 2-c - 3-a

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. T will start the next task for Ss to have vocabulary for the later speaking task. 2. T shares Google Form for meaning task with rules of Questions with like so Ss understand the difference of "look like, be like and like doing". We will do this task toguether. - What is she like? (Answer) - What does she look like? (Answer) - What does she like doing? (Answer) 3. T shows Jamboard (slide 7) with words, vocabulary and expressions they can use for their later on speaking task. Ss will be putting the correct title for each column. We will do this task toguether. -Look like -Be like -Like doing 4. T shares Jamboard (slide 8) with answers 1-6 about people's characteristics and questions a-f with questions to those answers. Ss will match the sentences with the correct questions. We will do this task toguether. -1-d -2-e -3-b -4-f -5-c -6-a 5. T explains the next task (Jamboard slide 9). Ss will listen to audio CD3 17 and notice the stressed words. 6. Ss will have marker sentences on Jamboard so it is easier for them to locate the stresses.

Productive Task(s) (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. T shares jamboard on Productive task (slide 10). 2. Ss will have a Jamboard slide with example sentences and vocabulary so they can use them for their activity. 3. Ss will go to BOR in pairs for about 12min, each S will choose 2 people they know and the other S will make them questions so that the S describes the peple they chose. 4. After they are back we will talk about the people they described.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

1. Once we talk about the Productive Task T will show Jamboard (slide 11) with CCQs to check understanding. -If we say someone has brown eyes we are talking about how they look like or about what they like doing? how they look like. -When we ask "What does he like doing?" we talk about what people enjoy doing on their free time? Yes - We can say "She is friendly" to refer to a person's character? Yes
